Orr Marshall received a master's degree in painting from Yale University, where he studied with Josef Albers. He lived in Japan for five years, studying at the Tokyo University of Fine Arts with a scholarship from the Japanese government and traveling extensively in Japan and Southeast Asia. He has taught at the California College of Arts and Crafts in the San Francisco Bay Area and at the College of the Redwoods in Eureka, California, where he now lives and devotes his time to painting.

For several years he has served as vice president of the Redwood Art Association, helping to organize its annual exhibitions for artists of the California North Coast area. His paintings are in private and public collections throughout the country, and he is represented by Orlando Gallery, Sherman Oaks, California.
