Stuart has studied at Humboldt State University, Otis Art Institute, Parson School of Design, Sonoma State University, and College of the Redwoods. He paints and draws in mixed media, oil, oil pastels, pencil, and crayon. His favorite subjects are redwood trees, the giant sequoias, and wild animals -- some of them zoo inmates.

Each year, a Native American artist is selected by The Ink People Center for the Arts, United Indian Health Services, and The Seventh Generation Fund to create a new work of art to be used in a full color poster in conjunction with the "From The Source" exhibition. In 1996, Stuart Foster was the chosen artist. He created a vibrant scene of a traditional Yurok village in the spring, based on his memories and stories told to him by elders when he was young. It is The Ink People's most popular poster ever.

In addition, one of Stuart's exquisite graphite drawings of the redwood forest was chosen by The Ink People Center for the Arts to create a poster representing Humboldt County. The image has also been made into note cards.

Both posters are available from The Ink People for $10 each, and the note cards are $1 each, including envelope, or five for $4.50. -- SEQUOIA TREES --
